About Vernalis

Working within our fully equipped research laboratories in Cambridge, our established group of scientists are world leaders in fragment and structure-based drug discovery.

Our Scientists develop and apply fragment and structure-based methods to solve problems in drug discovery and have generated cell active lead compounds and development candidates against targets in oncology, neurodegeneration, anti-infectives and inflammation.

The Role

This is a fixed term (up to 2 years), full time lab-based position within the Protein Science team. The role has a focus on generating high quality proteins to support drug discovery programmes by enabling NMR, X-ray crystallography and biochemical assays.

Main responsibilities:

  • Production and QC of high-quality proteins suitable to enable drug discovery programmes
  • Presentation of work at project meetings and to external partners
  • Liaising with Protein Science Team Leader and Project Leaders to ensure the needs of projects are met
  • Contributing to the safe and efficient running of the laboratory

Knowledge and Experience

  • Hands-on experience with protein purification
  • Experience using AKTA purification systems e.g. AKTA Pure
  • Competent using IMAC/IEC/SEC techniques

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience working within an industrial lab-setting
  • Familiarity with intact mass spectrometry analysis of proteins
  • Knowledge of using TSA/DSF for protein QC
  • Experience generating isotopically labelled proteins
  • Familiarity with molecular biology software e.g. VectorNTI or CLC Main Workbench
  • Experience assessing structures of protein using PyMol

Skills and Personal Competencies
